What You Can Do To Be Happier Today
You’re in a funk: You’d like to be happier, but you can’t put your finger on what’s troubling you. The good news, say researchers, is that you may be able to control some of your own happiness.
Here are some other recommendations, from easy to challenging.
- Take a 30-minute walk every day.
Exercise releases endorphins in your body (the so-called “runner’s high”), which helps to boost your mood. - Get out of the house.
If you get out and do things, you’ll feel better. You can’t say ‘I’m a loser’ when you’re out doing something. - Keep a journal.
It can help you physically to get that information out of you and onto paper. - Be wary of negative people.
Sometimes venting provides a release, but when everyone around you is complaining it can be contagious. - Prioritize to reduce your stress levels.
It’s only 20 percent of the demands that are really important. - Take control of your life.
Choose a goal you’d like to accomplish in the next 10 years. Break it down to the next five years, then the next year. Make this doable and not overwhelming. You’ll be amazed at how your stress levels decrease as you work toward your goal.
