How To Feel Hip At Any Age
Growing older with style doesn’t have to mean mom jeans and a sensible hairstyle. But forget about shopping the teen section—here are some easy for ways to look and feel younger both inside and out.
Put your best face forward
One of the first visible signs of aging? The face. The solution? Spend less time in the sun.
Many issues, from sagging of the skin to dark or white spots, even cancer, can be attributed to prolonged sun exposure. Make sure to always use sunblock (at least SPF 30) daily.
Just say no (to frump)
While skintight clothes and miniskirts may not be for every age, don’t banish yourself to baggy clothes that hide your body.
First, identify your body type. If you’re an “apple,” in which the upper body is larger than the lower half, you’ll look great in flowy peasant tops, dresses with empire waists and wide-legged pants, all of which create a balanced shape. “Pear” bodies often have rounder hips and thighs, and look best in a-line skirts, scoop-neck shirts and form-fitting blazers.
Choose classically chic pieces that allow you to show off your best assets while drawing attention away from your trouble areas—all while maintaining a fashionable look for any occasion.
Embrace accessories
You don’t need a wardrobe overhaul to feel hip. Accessories are a great way to add a punch of color or a sense of style to any outfit. Wearing a chunky necklace or adding a colorful scarf can complement your wardrobe and keep you looking up to date.
For your feet, flats are just one of many options. Shoes with small (1- to 2-inch) heels, for example, can be both comfortable and stylish.
Get back to basics
Feel like you don’t know where to start? Eating well and exercising regularly will make you feel better overall, regardless of age.
